Widely recognized as an expert in transportation and transportation technology, Peter has worked over the last 30 years with agencies worldwide to develop, design, and implement innovative ITS technologies

In Castle Rock's early years, Peter was an evaluator and advisor on the innovative, first-generation technical platforms that now form the basis of ITS worldwide, such as the Mark IV toll tag used in almost all CVO and electronic toll systems.

Kristin joined Castle Rock in 2001 after working in electronic publishing, user interface/web design, and software development. At Castle Rock, she has worked with over 20 transportation agencies on their 511, traveler information, transit, and other transportation-related systems.

Now President of Castle Rock, Kristin also serves as a lead designer for all of our major software projects. With B.A. in English and an M.S. in information science, she believes in taking a multi-disciplinary, design-driven, and user-centered approach to all software projects. Her recent work includes the design of mobile and responsive web applications; the integration of personalized information into 511/traveler information; and approaches and solutions for weaving crowd-sourced input into 511 and traveler information systems.

A native Bostonian and Tulane University alum, Abby Smith moved to Portland and joined the Castle Rock team in 2010. Abby now serves as project manager for five state agencies and recently earned her PMP certification.

Her recent projects include the addition of ferry status information to Louisiana's 511 system, the statewide expansion of Kentucky's State Police CAD imports, and enhancing Iowa's truckers' information site with personalized reports and alerting. Abby also participates in the design of new systems and concept development.

Dane Unruh joined the Castle Rock team in 2009. He holds a master's degree in social theory from the University of Chicago and currently serves as Senior Project Manager. Dane manages CARS software deployments for Idaho, Minnesota, and the New York State Thruway Authority.

Dane also manages MODES software deployments for a dozen transit agencies in Idaho and Texas. He plays a key role in software design, development, and quality assurance testing— working closely with Castle Rock's developer team.

After getting a handful of degrees from the University of Montana, Shannon traveled, worked in consulting and marketing roles, and landed here to round out the project management team in early 2012.

Shannon is the project manager for three state agencies, and recent projects include designing UI's, collaborating on CARS-App, and redesigning and updating existing modules to fit in with our latest generation's look and feel.

Mary joined the Castle Rock team in 2014 and currently serves as a Jr. Project Manager.

In her role, Mary assists the Project Management team with design and enhancements of the CARS software deployments.

Castle Rock software development is led by Sam Olsen. Sam joined Castle Rock in 2013, and brings over seven years' experience building modern web and mobile applications. He works closely with the project management team to set priorities, evaluate user interface and software architecture design, and provide time estimates. Sam has a bachelor's degree in computer science from Arizona State University.

Roman joined Castle Rock in November of 2014, after developing software for a semantic modeling company. He studied computer science at the Washington State University. His main experience has been with server side software and Java based RESTful web services. In addition, he has worked with Front-end JavaScript frameworks and other web technologies. Roman likes to dabble in anything new involving: the web, mobile applications, big data, user interface design, maps, music, and food.

Dan has been writing software for far longer than he would care to admit in many diverse areas including artificial intelligence, software reuse, e-commerce and healthcare using a variety of technologies including C++, Java, Objective-C and UML for companies both large and small. Dan took a break from software for a few years to pet puppies for a living by opening a pet store. In the last two years, he has rejoined the software ranks focusing on mobile application development in both iOS and Android.

Sam joined the Castle Rock team in August of 2015 after graduating from Lewis & Clark college with a degree in computer science. He primarily has experience with systems programming, but has also done some work with user interface on web and mobile applications.

Outside of work Sam experiments with Swift, Go, machine learning algorithms and likes getting outdoors to the many nautral attractions that Oregon has to offer.

James Bertelson joined Castle Rock in February of 2008, and currently serves as Castle Rock's System Operations Manager, overseeing maintenance and operations for the CARS/511 multi-state consortium.

James' work at Castle Rock includes managing Castle Rock's team of Operations personnel, system automation, software upgrades and deployments, system testing, and performance enhancements.

James' technical background includes F5, VMware, Windows and Linux servers, SQL, Java, and DNS as well as coding in Bash, Powershell, Python, and PHP.

James Bertelson

Aaron came to Castle Rock in 2009 and presently serves as an application specialist, supporting software deployments in multiple states.

Aaron's duties at Castle Rock include deploying and upgrading software modules, responding to support requests 24/7, and working with the rest of the team to improve efficiency where possible. He is experienced in HTML and JSP coding languages.

Benjamin joined the Castle Rock team in December of 2014. He works with the rest of the Operations team to deploy and upgrade program modules, track down and resolve network and system issues, and address internal and external support requests.

Benjamin has a background in technical support. He is experienced with DNS, the LAMP stack, scripting in Windows and Linux, website administration, QA, and documentation.

Benjamin Issacson

Daniel joined Castle Rock in 2008 as their Geographic Information Systems Specialist. He has over 15 years experience in spatial database solutions. He develops, manages and maintains road network data for all of Castle Rock's clients. Daniel is instrumental in implementing the OSM Import tools developed at Castle Rock.

When away from the office, Daniel tours around the world as a drummer and percussionist.

Marlys oversees the areas of accounting and human resources for Castle Rock. Before coming to Oregon, Marlys' extensive accounting background was in the Savings & Loan industry.

Her more recent years have been spent providing accounting services to small businesses through a Portland tax consulting firm.

Though originally from sunny, southern California, she is in awe of the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Spending time with her family, gardening and working with youth are her passions.
